CELEBRATE LIFE WITH INDIGENOUS TRADITION

I grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan, my reserve is Cowessess First Nation of Treaty 4 Territory. I feel at peace in the prairies but have adapted to my hometown in Calgary, Alberta. It is here that I learned the beautiful gift of making Star Blankets and I value the meaning that they hold. For me they are a symbol of protection and comfort, very necessary for the complexity and challenges we face in life.
More about me…
I am a Cree, Sioux, Scottish, and Jamaican artist from Treaty 4 Territory in Saskatchewan, and the heart behind Spirit Sewn—an Indigenous-owned business rooted in healing, tradition, and resilience. As a descendant of a residential school survivor and someone living with lupus and undergoing dialysis, I carry both personal and intergenerational stories of loss, survival, and strength. The grief and disconnection I’ve experienced throughout my life have been deeply somatic, shaping my path in unexpected ways. I first pursued and completed a degree in psychology, driven by a desire to comfort others who, like me, felt broken or alone. But it was through the ancestral art of star blanket making that I truly began to reconnect—with life, with purpose, and with spirit. Guided by a powerful vision of my grandmother, who told me, “These are your tools,” I finally embraced the legacy that had been with me all along. Today, I pour love, protection, and ancestral wisdom into every star blanket I create. Each piece is made slowly and intentionally, meant to wrap others in warmth and sacred care as they move through life’s most meaningful transitions. Spirit Sewn exists to honor the old ways, to bring beauty and protection to the present, and to pass on a legacy stitched in love.
